Folks in Sand Springs are busy getting ready for the Herbal Affair and Festival this Saturday.

The event features more than 100 vendors selling herbs, perennials, natives, and heirloom plants, along with herbal products, gardening supplies, and folk art.

The Festival was canceled last year because of the pandemic, and Community Development Director Grant Gerondale says they're ready to welcome people back.

“The is certainly the first large event outdoors for the City of Sand Springs and it might be one of the first outdoor events in the metro Tulsa area that I'm aware of in April," said Gerondale.

The city says it's not unusual to see over 20,000 people in town for this event. And even though it takes place mostly outside, masks will be required.

Other precautions include spacing booths out down the street to allow for social distancing.

The owner of Yellow House Market and Boutique says this could mean more customers come through her store.

"This will be the first year that Herbal Affair will actually be running in front of our store," said Lisa Miller.

Miller says they are busy preparing for the huge crowds on Saturday.

"My brain is fried right now, we've been working long hours this week to get ready," she said.

The city says there will be plenty to do at the festival including shopping for plants of all kinds, live music, and tons of food trucks.

"Oh, by the way, pets are allowed. If you've got a dog or something on a leash, we actually had a kangaroo here one year. As long as it's on a leash and it's not exotic, we're good with that," said Gerondale.

The event starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
