TULSA, OK -- Recording artist Trisha Yearwood helped launch National Women Build Week at Tulsa's Habitat for Humanity warehouse Tuesday.

More than 200 crews of women will pound nails across the country May 2-10 in an effort to build affordable homes for people like Tamika Horn, a single mother of two who is slated to receive the next Habitat for Humanity home.

"Your house is being built, that's excitement enough," Horn said. "Then this woman, this superstar, comes in and says hello. ... I can't describe it. It was wonderful."

"I'm just really impressed," Yearwood said. "I think it's something like 1,400 houses women have built since 1998. Tulsa has almost nine. That's a lot. That's something to really be proud of for this area. You guys are in the top in the nation for the work that you do."

Lowe's is sponsoring National Women Build Week and has donated $35,000 for the building of Tamika's new home.

Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built 300,000 homes worldwide.
