TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa firefighter is attacked with a crowbar while responding to a call. The assault happened on Tuesday afternoon near Cincinnati and Woodrow in north Tulsa.
The Tulsa Fire Department says it was responding to a fire in a backyard when the man they believe set the blaze attacked them, first with a bucket and then with a crowbar.
Officers have identified the man as 59-year-old John Davis. Police arrested him for assaulting a firefighter, resisting arrest and starting an illegal open fire.
Nearby, the John 3:16 Mission says the suspect is homeless and has a history of mental illness. Authorities say the situation is something they occasionally have to deal with.
"Are you expecting it? Absolutely not. Does it affect your attitude or anything like that? No, you've got a job to do," said TFD Chief Officer Bill French.
One firefighter was hit in the arm with the crowbar and treated for minor injuries.
