The Insane Clown Posse is a Detroit-based rap group known for its violent lyrics.
The group's male followers are known as juggalos and female fans as juggalettes.
Some police departments consider the band's followers as gang members because they have been charged with so many crimes.
Bobby, whose 15-year-old daughter was allegedly attacked by two 16-year-old "juggalettes," says he has found many instances of violence committed by the group's fans.By Lori Fullbright, The News On 6
BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Broken Arrow Police are investigating an assault against a 15-year-old girl they believe has a connection to the Insane Clown Posse. The Posse is a Detroit-based rap group known for its violent lyrics.
However, violence done in name of this band has become such a big problem that many police departments now classify the band's followers as a gang.
The Insane Clown Posse are men in their 30's dressed up in clown makeup who sing about rape, murder and stabbings.
Some people argue the group and its loyal followers are harmless, that the music is a way to let off steam, but some police disagree and so does a Broken Arrow father.
"It's not normal for a kid to have a person in their life one day and kicking their door down and beating them up the next day," said Bobby, a concerned father.
Bobby says that's what happened to his 15-year-old daughter by so-called friends October 23rd. Police arrested two 16-year-old girls for the attack.
Bobby didn't know anything about the Insane Clown Posse until he learned his daughter and those friends considered themselves, juggalettes, female followers of the group. Male followers are juggalos.
Bobby says his daughter didn't realize what the group was really about. Police compare her beating to a throw down similar to a gang initiation.
"What parents need to know, this is not just a band, this is a cult, this is a gang," said Bobby.
Bobby, who is a licensed private eye, did some research and found article after article of juggalos charged with stabbings, murders and shootings.
He understands lyrics are protected by free speech, but he believes this group actually recruits teenagers to commit crimes.
"I'm not a law enforcement officer, so I don't know exactly where you can draw the line between free speech and terrorism," said Bobby.
Bobby says the band's website promises as much violence at their concerts as music and they proclaim to be just as proficient swinging an ax during a real murder as they are playing their videogame that imitates murders.
"I just need to stress to parents they must be vigilant about knowing what's on their teenager's IPod, cell phone, laptop, PC, whatever," said Bobby.
Broken Arrow, Sapulpla and Bixby police all report crimes involving juggalos. Bixby has had so many, they do consider juggaloes a gang, although Tulsa's gang unit does not right now.
The News On 6 has talked with devoted juggalos who are law-abiding citizens, who say a few bad apples give the rest of them a bad name. One said the music is only entertainment, "like a horror movie put to music."
They think it's ridiculous juggalos are considered a gang and says the band does not promote violence, but, is actually against it.
The group's label, Psychopathic Records, denounces violent acts performed by people claiming to be juggalos.
