Tulsa, OK -- It is World Aids Day and some Tulsa students got a tangible reminder.
The Red Cross HIV-AIDs educator and a team of student leaders, known as STAY, handed out red remembrance ribbons at Memorial High School.
STAY stands for Students Teaching AIDS to Youth. It is a peer education program that got its start in Tulsa but has gone nationwide.
Their main message, "Get educated, get educated about it so that you're taking precautions to prolong, I mean to save your life, because this is one epidemic you don't have to get it. It's one hundred percent preventable," said Heather Nash, Red Cross HIV/AIDS educator.
The Red Cross says 50% of the HIV-AIDS cases being diagnosed right now in the United States are in people between the ages of 12 and 24
