NOVATO, CA -- A Tulsa woman is gaining recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ashley Battles set a new world record Saturday for wing walking 1,000 feet above San Francisco. She stood on the 33-foot wingspan of a Super 450 Boeing Stearman for four hours. The previous wing walking record was 3 hours, 23 minutes.

There are only six active wing walkers in the country.

Battles has been flying since she was a teenager. She graduated from OSU with a degree in aviation. She could fly any plane she wants. Instead, she climbs on top of them.

"I knew I wanted to be a pilot for the rest of my life, but after getting all of my ratings, I was really kind of bored with flying straight and level," Battles said.
