TULSA, OK -- A pillar of Oklahoma's native community was recognized Thursday night.

The Greater Tulsa Indian Affairs Commission honored George Tiger with the organization's life-time achievement award.

Stricken with polio as a child, Tiger didn't walk until age seven. A member of the Muscogee Creek nation, Tiger is an influential member of the Indian community, serving as a consultant to various tribes and as a liaison between federal, state and tribal governments.

"I'm being honored with really a great class of people that are being honored tonight that have contributed not only here in Tulsa but in the state as well as national level so it is quite an honor," Tiger said.

Tiger is also a fixture on News On 6, having hosted "Inside Native America" for the past 28 years.
