TULSA, Oklahoma -- Volunteers spent Christmas Eve at the Salvation Army in Tulsa helping those in need.

This year's annual Christmas lunch served more than 500 people, but the meals wouldn't have been possible without the help of dozens of volunteers.

"We have families coming, church groups, college students," Volunteer Coordinator Rhonda McDaniel said.

Brian O'Hara has helped the Salvation Army as a volunteer bell ringer. He decided to bring his son to the Christmas Eve lunch to serve meals.

"Just really having an opportunity to help people is a blessing in and of itself," O'Hara said.

Organizers said people volunteer for a number of reasons, and the experience always seems to touch hearts.

"A lot of people come back. They came once and they say, 'I want to come again. I want to help again,'" said McDaniel. "This has been very touching to some people."

If you'd like to volunteer, call the Salvation Army Volunteer Hotline at (918) 587-5801, extension 113.
