TULSA, Oklahoma -- A hotel renovation project has turned into a design project on historic Route 66.

A couple of months ago Rick Wells stopped by the old Campbell Hotel to check on the renovation and found its 26 rooms would be home to this year's Designer Showcase.

Lisa Bell and Tracy Hearon from I-4 designs have selected the Rose Bowl, as the theme for their piece of this year's Designer Showcase.

They told me they're working on a big lamp sculpture made of bowling pins.

Paula Dellavedova from the Foundation for Tulsa Schools was showing us around.

The Cambell Hotel, on 11th Street in Tulsa, was built in the 1920s and was a businessman's hotel. It's been vacant in recent years but will be a hotel again soon.

Designer Showcase folks thought this would be a terrific place for this year's event. There are 26 rooms. Designers each take on a room as a project.

There's an Art Deco Room which will be the TU room.

"This is perfect you can see it from here," Bell said as she points at TU just up the street.

"I wanted to bring England to Route 66," said Designer GK Griffin.

Griffin's theme is a Welsh cottage. The wood in the mantel is 150-year-old prickly cypress out of a Louisiana swamp.

The designers will move their furniture in after the floors are finished and the lights are hung. The Tulsa Designer Showcase is April 29 through May 22d.
