Enid officials try to determine cause of fish kill

Associated Press - November 10, 2009 8:05 AM ET

ENID, Okla. (AP) - City officials in Enid are looking for the cause of a fish kill in a creek east of the city's sewer plant.

More than 100 fish were found dead Monday by a sewer plant operator at the convergence of Boggy Creek and Skeleton Creek.

Public Works Director Jim McClain says he's confident the cause is not from the city and may be from someone dumping chemicals into any 1 of Enid's 6,000 manholes. McClain says both the state Department of Environmental Quality and the state Department of Agriculture have been notified.

He says neighboring landowners have also been told to keep their cattle away from the stream.
