TULSA, OK -- Tulsans have selected their next mayor and he is a Tulsa businessman. The results are in and the win goes to Republican Dewey Bartlett.

“I am so very pleased, so very happy and very humbled by what the citizens of Tulsa have now given me -- the responsibility of leading this city,” said Dewey Bartlett, (R) mayor-elect.

It's Bartlett's second run for mayor and supporters of the local oilman are gushing.

He previously served on the Tulsa city council and now takes over the Tulsa mayor's office.

Bartlett will be officially sworn in as mayor on December 7.

Bartlett lost a campaign for state Senate to Democrat Tom Adelson, but turns the tables, defeating Adleson by an eight-point margin. Independent candidate Mark Perkins received nearly 18 percent of the vote.

Tom Adelson had yet to lose a campaign before now.

“Obviously, I had hoped to do much better, but the citizens of Tulsa spoke with pretty loud voices tonight and I respect it, and I wish Mayor Bartlett all the best,” said Adelson.

Bartlett said he spoke with Adelson and that they agreed to get together for dinner. Bartlett said he hopes they can move beyond their past differences.

“I’ll look forward to that time and he and I can hopefully shake hands and develop a good relationship and become friends,” said Bartlett.

Bartlett has also been in contact with Mayor Kathy Taylor. Bartlett said they will be working together on making his transition to the mayor’s office as smooth as possible.
