BLACKWELL, OK -- A 12-year-old driver ran over his 8-year-old sister Saturday morning near Blackwell in Kay County. According to an accident report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol the 12-year-old was driving a 1990 Plymouth Voyager van along a dirt track on private property about 7 miles west of Blackwell off State Highway 11 at about 11:30 a.m.
Other children present were trying to get the boy to stop, and the 8-year-old ran into the path of the van and was struck by the vehicle.
The young girl was airlifted from Blackwell Regional Hospital to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. where she was admitted in stable condition with head, trunk and leg injuries.
The trooper’s report listed “inexperienced driver” as the cause of the collision. The 12-year-old behind the wheel was uninjured.
