WINCHESTER, OK -- A Stillwater couple was arrested after leading Okmulgee County law enforcement on a chase by car and on foot late Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

Richard Charles Kuhlenschmidt and Ruby Irene Kuhlenschmidt had outstanding warrants in Payne County, according to the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Department. They attracted the attention an Okmulgee Deputy late Wednesday morning as they drove southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75.

The deputy tried to pull the couple's vehicle over, but the male driver failed to stop and attempted to elude arrest, the release states.

The car chase proceeded through several fields, avoiding a roadblock, then ended in the city of Winchester.

Richard Kuhlenschmidt was arrested on complaints of reckless driving, eluding police, failure to stop at a roadblock and operating a radio receive police frequencies for illegal purposes. He also had a failure to appear warrant from Payne County for several drug offenses.

Ruby Kuhlenschmidt was arrested on an outstanding Payne County warrant for harboring a fugitive.

"This was a team effort," said Sheriff Eddy Rice.

"My thanks to Oklahoma Game Warden David Robertson who assisted in the arrest of the driver and to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Beggs Police Department and the Muscogee Creek Nation Lighthorse Tribal Police for providing additional manpower."
