TULSA, Oklahoma -- University of Tulsa's president, Steadman Upham, announced Tuesday he is stepping down at the end of June, 2012.
Upham has been president since 2004.
"The TU family has come together to realize tremendous success over recent years," Upham said in a letter. "These gains have moved the university across the threshold of a new era that will benefit from the fresh ideas and energy of new leadership."
Upham is TU's 17th president.
According to a news release posted on the university's www.utulsa.edu web site, Upham's tenure was highlighted by strengthening academic quality of students and faculty, maintaining strong enrollment, adding more than a million square feet of state-of-the-art facilities and preserving fiscal stability without layoffs or program cuts during one of the most turbulent economic times in U.S. history.
The release goes on to say Upham oversaw the university's largest comprehensive campaign.
Upham plans to remain at TU in a teaching and research role.
