TULSA, Oklahoma -

Republican congressional candidate Markwayne Mullin remains in a Tulsa hospital where he is being treated for a torn esophagus.

Mullin's campaign manager Tim Ross says the businessman is in good condition but still is unable to eat and drink and is being fed intravenously.

Ross said Mullin was having dinner Saturday night with his wife in Muskogee when he began having trouble swallowing and breathing. He was taken a Tulsa hospital, where he is expected to remain until Friday.

Ross says Mullin is not expected to undergo surgery and that doctors are keeping him hospitalized as a precaution.

Mullin defeated three-term state Representative George Faught in the August GOP primary runoff with 57 percent of the vote.

He will face Democrat Rob Wallace in November.

The winner will replace retiring 2nd District Congressman Dan Boren, a Democrat.
