Tulsa Police say bridges across the southern half of the city were slick Tuesday morning.  Police have responded to several crashes so far. Almost all the crashes have occurred on bridges, especially on I-44 and Highway 169.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation had crews out since the early hours of Tuesday applying sand where needed.

Freezing rain and sleet led to a 21-vehicle crash on I-40 in the Oklahoma City area.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph says the pileup happened about 3 a.m. Tuesday. She says a semi trailer jackknifed on a bridge over the Oklahoma River. Cars began hitting the semi, and then other semis slid into them.

Randolph says the pileup involved 10 separate crashes with 21 vehicles. Three of those were semis.

Two people were injured when their pickup truck hit a patch of ice in the roadway just west of Skiatook Tuesday morning.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the crash at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday occurred on a county road in Osage County.

Troopers say the driver Andrew MacLeod, 20 and Shana Macleod, 22 were transported to a Tulsa hospital. The OHP says in their report, the pair was not using their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The report states two passengers, boys ages 7 and 8, who were wearing their seat belts were not injured.

Troopers say after hitting the patch of ice, the pickup truck slid across the road and hit a tree.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says it has completed pre-treating all bridges.

There were reports of several crashes on the Will Rogers Turnpike Tuesday morning.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
