SAPULPA, Oklahoma -

A domestic dispute call turned into a standoff that lasted over two hours in Sapulpa early Sunday morning, police say.

Police responded to an apartment at East Wells Boulevard and South Main Street, shortly after 12:30 a.m. and found the female victim waiting nearby. They said she had been injured and had run away from the apartment.

Captain David Jones of the Sapulpa Police Department said when officers confronted the man in the apartment, identified as 30-year-old David Kinney, he barricaded himself inside and told them he was armed with a knife, which the officers saw through the window.

That's when they called in the Southwest Area Tactical Team, a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of officers from Sapulpa, Sand Springs and Bixby. Over two hours later, Capt. Jones said the officers talking to Kinney over the phone convinced him to surrender.

Jones said officers found two knives inside the apartment.

Kinney was booked into Creek County jail Sunday morning.

During the standoff, police closed off traffic in either direction on South Main and set up the S.W.A.T. staging area in the parking lot of the Central Tech vocational school.
