Prayer Service To Take Place In Moore For Victims Of Massive Tornado

A memorial service for everyone impacted by Monday's storm is set to take place Sunday night in Moore.

The "Oklahoma Strong, Coming Together in Faith" prayer service will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday, at the First Baptist Church, located at 301 N.E. 27th Street in Moore.

An EF-5 tornado touched down near Newcastle just before 3 p.m. Monday, and tore across the Moore area. Twenty-four people were killed and hundreds were injured.

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says 12,000 to 13,000 homes were affected by the tornado.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin will attend the prayer service.

According to Gov. Fallin's Office, there is no parking at First Baptist Church. If you want to attend the service, you must park at the Crossroads Mall parking lot, located at 7000 Crossroads Blvd. in Oklahoma City.

Shuttles will be available, beginning at 4:30 p.m., to take people to the service.

First Baptist Church has a capacity of 4,500 people. Seating is first come, first serve. Seating on the ground floor of the church will be reserved for those who were victims of the May tornadoes. Seating for the general public will be in the balcony area and the church fellowship hall.

Overflow seating will be available at the nearby Westmoore High School, located at 12613 S. Western Ave, Oklahoma City. Both locations are open to the public.

Also on Sunday, President Barack Obama will tour the tornado damage in Moore. News 9 will have complete coverage of his trip Sunday afternoon.
