NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Norman Police spent the entire day investigating at an apartment complex where a young man was shot Saturday morning, and later died.

Officers say the victim was the one who called police for help. Officers rushed to the apartment at Quorum Condominiums on West Brooks Street in Norman.

Yellow tape surrounded Christina Walters' apartment.

"I'm ready to get out of here. I mean, we're looking for a place right now," Walters said. She lives a few footsteps away from the apartment where police found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound that would prove fatal.

"It's right next door, you know. My granddaughter's bedroom is right there and it's right next door, so you know, it's kind of scary."

Neighbors say police kicked down the wounded man's door after 9 a.m. Saturday and took him to Norman Regional hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Some residents say it's a pretty quiet area, while others say they regularly see drugs and gang activity.

"It is a little unnerving, that it's close to home, but I've seen so many fights over in that direction, that it's not surprising," five-year resident Cynthia Neighbors said. "Unfortunately, it's just one of those things that you kind of wait for it to happen, and now, it did."

Walters didn't know the man who was killed, and says the shooting has left her family frightened.

"I'm scared. I mean, me and my granddaughter sleep in that room, and now it's kind of scary to go back in there. Knowing that, I went in there earlier, kind of to see if there was anything, any holes in the room, and it's kind of scary."

Police don't have any suspects and have not released any details on the victim, other than to say he was a young black man.

Police in Midwest City and Oklahoma City are also investigating fatal shootings that occurred Saturday morning.
