Possible Moonshine Still Found In Cleveland County

Cleveland County sheriff's deputies are trying to find the people who may have set up an illegal moonshine still near Lexington.

The still was found just before 6 a.m. Saturday after deputies responded to a car fire at 96th Street and York Road.

Deputies examined the heavily damaged 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and discovered it had a tow strap attached to it. Investigators say it was being towed on its rims only. The rims likely overheated and started the fire.

Deputies followed track marks back to a home in the 14000 block of 96th Street. They tried to contact the residents, but no one opened the door. There were several cars on the property, and when deputies ran the license plates, they discovered a pickup truck reported stolen out of Purcell.

Police obtained a search warrant and while searching the property, they found what appeared to be a moonshine still in a shed. They said it contained a mash and liquid product.

Investigators called in agents with the Alcohol Beverage Law Enforcement (ABLE) Commission, who also believed the device was a moonshine still.

Deputies and ABLE Commission agents are still trying to identify the people connected to the stolen vehicle and the still.
