TULSA, Oklahoma -

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a winter weather advisory through midnight Sunday for sleet and snow. The advisory is in effect for Pawnee, Creek, Pittsburg, Okfuskee, Okmulgee and McIntosh Counties.

Up to an inch of sleet and snow may be in store for these areas.

Green Country temperatures are running almost 20 degrees below normal in the wake of an Arctic front, according to News On 6 WARN Team Meteorologist Mike Grogan.

The first snow of the year is expected to fall, but Grogan is not expecting much accumulation - despite what they are seeing west of Oklahoma City Sunday morning.

"Once the snow gets east of Interstate 35, the intensity and coverage should taper off. Nonetheless, by mid-afternoon, I expect to see snowflakes flying across Green Country," Grogan said.

"Temperatures will remain near freezing so minor accumulations of an inch or less are possible on grassy surfaces," he said in his Weather Blog.

"Roads should remain wet during the day, but use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, especially after dark as temperatures continue to fall."

Travel is strongly discouraged in western Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Click on the link below for more coverage from our sister station, News 9 in Oklahoma City.
