TULSA, OK -- Dozens of horseback riders took center stage for a qualifying event at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds.
It's called the Tulsa Holiday Circuit. It's an exhibition run by the American Quarter Horse Association. Ropers worked in teams of two to reign in the steer. There were divisions for both professionals and amateurs.
They say part of the appeal is harking back to the days of the Wild West.
"We all want to be cowboys, I guess. And, it's just what they did, you know. They roped calves, we rope calves. And, we head and heel and we do it, too. It's entertaining. It's fun," said roper Roger Coday.
The Tulsa Holiday Circuit is a qualifying event for the national championships in Amarillo. The event will wrap up on Friday afternoon at the Ford Tough Livestock Complex.
