SPERRY, OK -- A fire that killed a 6-year-old boy has prompted an outpouring of support for the grief-stricken family.

From bull-riding benefits to concerts to silent auctions, Sperry has rallied around the Hansen family.

But the latest volunteer effort is quite an undertaking, a heavy job to help a family with heavy hearts.

Moving day for Danny and Chasity Hansen is a new beginning. They are counting down the minutes until their new home begins its journey and counting their blessings despite a terrible tragedy.

"I've been very overwhelmed, very overwhelmed," Chasity Hansen said. "I'm very thankful, very thankful."

In early February, the family lost everything in a fire. Worst of all, they lost a child.

The fire killed 6-year-old Derrick Hansen two days after his birthday. His great-grandmother died of a heart attack after hearing of his death.

During their heartache, the family is grateful for support from the community, which includes a home donated by St. Henry Catholic Church in Owasso and moved for free by Robin Hausner House Movers.

Finally, the 20-mile journey begins. With every turn, with every mile, they're closer to getting a grieving family back on their feet.

"My faith in humanity is so restored," family friend Claudia McGinnity said. "It's nice to have a blessing out of such a horrible tragedy."

The home will end up in Sperry, where the old house once stood. With two stories, four bedrooms and 2,900 square feet, there will be plenty of room for the couple's five girls.

After several long hours of dodging overhanging obstacles, the house is well on its way to its destination.

With the help of dozens of volunteers, it will be ready for the family to move in in about five weeks to start that new beginning.

"Cherish the time you have with your kids," Danny Hansen said. "I mean, you love them, but you take it for granted that they are always going to be there."
