Smoke Detectors Save Tulsans From Fire

TULSA, OK -- Smoke detectors saved the lives of two Tulsans, firefighters said.

Firefighters responded to a house fire at about 2 a.m. Sunday at 28 East 50th Court North.

Tulsa firefighters said two people were asleep inside the home when their smoke detectors woke them up. They made it out of the home safely, but one was treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters found fire in two bedrooms and a hallway once they got inside the home.

Upon search and rescue, Captain Michael Baker with the Tulsa Fire Department said firefighters found a small dog not breathing. Baker said crews attempted CPR and gave the dog oxygen, but were not able to revive the pet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The loss is estimated at about $70,000.

The Red Cross is helping the two residents.

Tulsa firefighters encourage everyone to change their smoke detector batteries twice a year.
