Tulsa Child Playing With Matches Started Fire

Tulsa Fire investigators say a 5-year-old child started an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon.

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Fire investigators say a 5-year-old child started an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon.

Tulsa Fire Captain Michael Baker says the fire at 4817 S. Jackson was caused by a child who used a match to ignite paper on a bed in the apartment.

Residents of the apartment were able to escape uninjured.

He says this is the second apartment fire in March started by a child. The last incident was on March 6 at 8100 E. 19th.

Baker says it is important that parents discuss fire safety with their children and ensure that matches and lighters are stored out of a child's reach.
