CATOOSA, OK -- Friends, family and neighbors are shocked over the sudden deaths of an elderly Catoosa couple, killed in a tragic wreck. The wreck happened Wednesday afternoon while the couple was turning into a grocery store on Highway 66.  Though Dale and Jane Schultz were killed, their legacy of kindness and generosity won't be forgotten.

Dale and Jane Schultz were on their way to a grocery store when they turned in front of an oncoming pickup.  Mr. Schultz died at the scene of the accident.  His wife of more than 60 years was flown to a Tulsa hospital where she later died.

Al Staton had known the couple for nearly three decades.

"I just couldn't believe it.  Absolutely couldn't," said neighbor Al Staton.

Staton says the Schultz's were wonderful people and the best neighbors and friends anyone could ask for.

"They would do anything for any of these people out here, including some strangers coming by.  They would jump out of their way to do anything for anybody," said neighbor Al Staton.

Jane Schultz loved to fish despite losing an arm in a boating accident.  Her retired engineer husband enjoyed his garden.  He would often share home grown vegetables with people all over the neighborhood.

The couple's kindness and generosity didn't stop there.  Even at 84 years old, Mr. Schultz would still frequently mow for some of the elderly residents in the neighborhood, just one day before he died; he tilled a garden for a neighbor across the road.

"I miss them and they've only been gone one day and I know all the neighbors think the same thing.  They all miss them," said neighbor Al Staton.

The tragic accident that took their lives, can't take their legacy, one of kindheartedness and neighborly goodwill that made the world a better place.

"I just wish everybody had somebody like that across the road from them," said neighbor Al Staton.

The Schultz family is still in the process of making funeral arrangements.
