Woman Sought In Animal Cruelty Case

TULSA, OK -- Creek County investigators are asking for your help identifying a suspect in a horrific animal cruelty case.  Sheriff's deputies brought Sammy the dog to Tulsa to announce their search for a woman who tied him to the bumper of a truck.

Lots of treats and lots of attention were waiting for Sammy when he arrived at the Dog Dish in Tulsa. The dog almost died last year after being tied to the bumper of a truck and dragged for nearly a mile.

"This was a very serious case. It was horrific," said Ruth Steinberger with the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals.

At the news conference on Wednesday, Creek County Sheriff's deputies announced they're searching for a new suspect.  They're looking for a woman who, witnesses say, tied Sammy to the truck's bumper.

One man, 20-year old Cody Hahn, has already been arrested in the case, but no one has said who was with him.

"We think that there are some witnesses out there that may have some information that could help us," said Creek County Undersheriff Richard Ishmael.

They want the woman to turn herself in or someone who knows her to turn her in, and the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals is sweetening the deal.  They're offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to her identification.

"The community, Creek County and the whole surrounding area have every right to say we want the perpetrator convicted," said Ruth Steinberger with the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals.

It's a large reward, but one that's possible because Sammy's story has captured so many hearts.

"Fortunately I think there are a lot of people out there that do care about animals and a lot of people own animals. I'm an animal owner and we just we can't tolerate this type of behavior," said Creek County Undersheriff Richard Ishmael.

Anyone who knows the woman's identity is urged to call the Creek County Sheriff's Office.

Sammy is still recovering, but already has a new home.
