Up With Trees Giving Away Free Trees

TULSA, OK -- Up With Trees has two tree-giveaway programs to help individuals and organizations plant trees on their property this spring.

Up With Trees has teamed up with the Metropolitan Environmental Trust and the Oklahoma Forestry Services to offer free tree saplings to the public.

A variety of species are available, including loblolly pine, arborvitae, lacebark elm, bald cypress, several kinds of oak, redbud and more.

The 1-year-old bare-root trees may be picked up 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Up With Trees office at 1102 S. Boston.

"Although they look small, it's startling how fast they will grow," said Executive Director Anna America. "We have people every year who tell us they planted a seedling a few years ago and it's now 6-7 feet tall!"

Through a grant from the Apache Foundation, Up With Trees also is making larger trees available for free to area non-profits agencies, local governments and faith-based organizations to plant on their facilities.

The 3-gallon potted trees include eight different species of shade and flowering trees. The trees will be delivered April 9 and can be picked up starting that date.

The trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis to non-profits, government agencies and faith-based groups that wish to plant them on their facility's property as long as the organization commits to maintaining the trees.

Groups must fill out an application in advance.
