TULSA, OK -- A little dog has been given a second chance by a couple of midtown residents.

Ziggy is a 12-week-old American Eskimo. Christina McDonough brought him to the new park at 41st Street and Riverside Drive.

Ziggy lets his nose do his looking for him.

"We know he can't see," McDonough said. "At best he's visually impaired."

Three weeks ago McDonough and her friend Shannon Hudson were walking their dogs through a Brookside parking lot. A worker on a smoke break called them over to see a dog behind a dumpster.

Ziggy was lying in the grass. They scooped him up and took him to the City Veterinary Hospital, where vets suspected he had been abused and dumped.

They took Ziggy home, and he got better and stronger by the day.

"When he first started walking, his back legs didn't work so well, and he made these little zigzag patterns," McDonough said. "That's how we named him Ziggy."

They also noticed he didn't see well. He just bumped into things.

Another check by the vet showed Ziggy was blind, perhaps the result of abuse. But that doesn't slow him down much.

"He's got it all figured out," McDonough said. "It didn't take him long either. He's a real smart dog."

With help from a caring vet and two new midtown friends, Ziggy has a new leash on life.

McDonough is hoping to find Ziggy a good home. She and Hudson are hoping to get reimbursed for his shots and neutering.
