Union Football Tries To Reload And Repeat Title Run
"Now it's about time to step up and be vocal," said senior linebacker Bob Lind, who had 74 tackles and 3.0 sacks in 2008.

TULSA, OK -- They were the centerpieces of an offense that averaged 44 points per game last season. Running back Jeremy Smith and wide receiver Tracy Moore combined for more than 2,600 yards of total offense and 44 touchdowns.
So how do you replace that? You don't.
"This year may look a little different," said Union coach Kirk Fridrich, who led the Redskins to the 6A state title last season. "We have some guys capable of stepping in and filling those roles. It may not seem they get as many yards or as many touchdowns in different areas."
In steps quarterback Chase Boyce. The rising senior will have to be more than just the signal caller this season.
"I kind of have to step up and be a little more of a leader," said Boyce, who threw for 2,300 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. "They did a lot of that last year. We're going to have some good people replacing them, but I don't know if you can replace them two."
"Now it's about time to step up and be vocal," said senior linebacker Bob Lind, who had 74 tackles and 3.0 sacks in 2008. "I've always let the other seniors speak it and I'm the action leader. This year, definitely, stand up and say something."
The Union football program speaks for itself. They've won four of the last seven state titles, but being out on the field for spring football on Monday signified the start of a new season.
"It's definitely time to refocus," Lind said. "We're past the championship. Now it's game one of the '09 season for sure."
"We kind of now have to lead; now it's our turn to step up," Boyce said. "It's our turn to step forward. All of us will band together this summer and we'll get ready."
