Reading Of The Names In Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY -- On Memorial Day, we remember the Oklahomans who paid a tremendous price for our freedom.

Monday at the state capitol, names were read of the more than 14,000 Oklahomans killed while serving our country since the Spanish-American War.

The Reading of the Names has become a yearly tradition. It started more than twenty years ago as a way to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"These are all heroes that are on this wall. We recognize names every year. They will never be forgotten. They'll always be spoken in the state of Oklahoma as long as we're here," said Keyth Howry, Marine Corps League.

The Reading of the Names is done by volunteers. They include veterans, boy scouts and family members of fallen servicemen and women.
