TULSA, OK -- Eastern Oklahoma welcomes home its warriors. A ceremony was held Sunday afternoon to honor members of the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion who have served in Iraq.

The 486th Civil Affairs Battalion has been home from Iraq for a while, but was well overdue for a thank you.

Gathered in front of friends and family, speakers praised their service in Iraq.

Each soldier was then given some tokens of appreciation, including their own flag.

Members of the 486th are referred to as "Warrior Citizens" and those who know them say the reputation is well deserved.

"She's awesome. She's a lot more of a person than I am, very brave and strong and continues to fight for our country," said Mary Wells, a supporter who attended the ceremony.

"It means a lot to us to have a great friend who is supporting our country and we're glad to be here for her today," said Lyndi Manson, a supporter who attended the ceremony.

Most of the 486th has been home for as long as 18 months, but they say Sunday's ceremony was well worth the wait.

"It was great to see everyone recognized for their service and for everything they've done overseas. It was good to see something here at the home station where the families can be here," said Capt. Stuart Barnes, 486th Civil Affairs Battalion.

"It means a lot. It means more to be with my buddies and fellow soldiers to receive the same. I'm grateful to be home and appreciate the backing of our family and friends," said 1LT Todd Lucas, 486th Civil Affairs Battalion.

The soldiers say there is a chance they may return to Iraq later this year and admit these types of ceremonies are much more enjoyable than the one before a deployment.

"It's good. You never know how much time you get to spend with them before your next rotation, so it's good to have everyone here," said Capt Stuart Barnes, 486th Civil Affairs Battalion.

While overseas, the 486th primarily served as liaisons between the military and Iraqi citizens.
