MUSKOGEE, OK -- Controversy over flying a flag honoring those lost in the Vietnam War made for a heated city council meeting Monday night in Muskogee.

Veterans groups are pushing the council to fly the POW MIA flag over the town's civic center.

The POW MIA flew over the town's civic center for a brief period of time. Currently, the United States and Oklahoma flags are flown there.

Supporters, including Mayor John Tyler Hammons, say the POW MIA should be flown.

However, some council members who are Veterans themselves say if they fly the POW MIA flag, they would have to at least consider flying other flags representing other conflicts.

Nothing was resolved Monday night, but the council hopes to reach a solution later this month.
