TULSA, OK -- The Tulsa Air and Space Museum hopes the first Native American astronaut can help them bring a retiring space shuttle to Tulsa.  Oklahoma astronaut, Commander John Herrington, was tapped on Thursday to head up the Land the Shuttle Campaign.

"To have that vehicle here, standing on end that people can see, and witness the remarkable engineering achievement would be a fabulous thing for the state," said Commander John Herrington.

Herrington says Tulsa has a rich history in aerospace and aviation and the shuttle would inspire future engineers.

There are 20 museums competing for three retiring shuttles.  NASA is expected to announce in 2011 or 2012 which cities will get them.
