Families of Murdered Seminole Deputies Remember, Mourn

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The families of two Seminole County Sheriff's deputies who were shot and killed are mourning their loss.

The Whitebirds and the Williams' were very close and feel like they are now missing two family members each.

It was 23-year-old Chase Whitebird's dream to become an FBI agent. Tony Bevelhymer said his nephew was an "Eagle Scout who loved being in law enforcement."

"We were really fond of Chase. He had a really good personality, he was just fun to be around. He just had a big heart like his mother," Chase's Uncle Tony Bevelhymer said.

Chase was learning a lot from Marvin Williams, the second deputy who was shot to death. Marvin had taken Chase under his wing, bringing the two families closer together.

Marvin Williams was recently promoted to captain. His brother Willie is also in law enforcement.

"With our jobs, you try to be prepared for something like this, but you just can't be. I'm going to miss him most as a brother. Our big brother is gone," Willie Williams said.

Marvin was the oldest of four and also leaves behind children and grandchildren of his own. His oldest child and only son is a deputy and often worked with his dad.

"I'm going to miss him. He was always there to answer my questions and always there when I needed him," Marvin's son Shawn Williams said.

Marvin was also a man of faith and often preached at church. His family said that faith brings them a sense of comfort.

Marvin Williams' wake is Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Swearigan Home at 100 W Strothers Ave. in Seminole. His funeral will be held Saturday, August 1 at 11 a.m. at the Seminole State College gym on the west side of campus.

Chase Whitebird's funeral will be Thursday, July 30 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka. News9.com will live stream Whitebird's funeral at 2 p.m.

The public is invited to both funerals.

The families wanted to extend their thanks to all the law enforcement and medical personnel that has been helping them.
