SEMINOLE, Oklahoma -- Family, friends and law enforcement from across the state gathered to say goodbye to their fallen hero, Sheriff Deputy Marvin Williams.

Williams touched many lives around him as a pastor and a sheriff's deputy serving in Seminole County.

"Look around, look at the influence your brother, your dad look at how god blessed him with the ability to touched all these lives," said William's friend Jeff Nance. "Marvin loved to serve people. He wanted to make a difference. It wasn't because it's a job, no it wasn't. It's because I want to make a difference."

Williams was shot and killed by a man he and a fellow deputy tried to arrest on Sunday. The 43-year-old had recently been promoted to captain.

Saturday, friends and family members shed tears and shared fond memories of the Seminole man who was a father, husband and a brother.

"He was always older than me, a little bit taller than me, had longer arms than me. And I learned at a young age, you might as well come in swinging because no matter what, you might as well get some licks in. You know looking back I wouldn't have it any other way," said Willie Williams, Marvin's brother.

Numerous people said Deputy Williams was a family man beyond the badge. They said he was one with many friends, but above all else, he never forgot who he was.

"Remember what he stood for. He's a man of God before he's a man of the county and I loved him and I love him still," Nance said.

Williams leaves behind his wife of 24 years, three daughters, a son and several grandchildren.

A fund has been set up in honor of Williams at the Security State Bank in Wewoka.
