UNDATED -- Tuesday night brought a budget boost to 124 volunteer fire departments across northeast Oklahoma.  The Cherokee Nation awarded more than $300,000 to help small departments with payroll, equipment and other expenses.

"You know the rural fire departments are strapped for funds and this is one way that we help them out.  And, it benefits so many people, not just our Cherokees, but our non-Cherokees," said Deputy Principal Chief Joe Grayson, Jr.
