TULSA, OK -- It was a patriotic beginning to the school year for some 4th and 5th graders at Union Public Schools. Students at Boevers Elementary attended a veterans' program to emphasis the freedoms of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Allan Hughes, a teacher and Veteran, led the assembly and says Monday's lesson was about more than government.
"You know often kids don't connect military with character values, but as you know around the world character values mater more than war itself," said Allan Hughes.
In addition to the assembly, each classroom received an American flag and a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
