Parents Bargain Shop At Tulsa Consignment Show

TULSA, OK -- A children's consignment show in Tulsa is smashing attendance records. It's called the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale and even the event's founders are in awe over the turnout.

Hundreds of parents are bargain shopping for their babies as a way to survive the economy.

Kari McNan is due in four weeks and has a lot of shopping to do at Just Between Friends.

"It's just awesome to be able to walk in and see everything a little bit cheaper than going to Babies R Us," said Kari McNan, a Bixby mom.

Just Between Friends is a giant consignment store for parents. Co-Founder Shannon Wilburn says raising a newborn is a pain in the pocketbook.

"It's so expensive to raise children and you're having to get them a completely new wardrobe every six months, and so this is just a smart way for people in the community to save," said Shannon Wilburn, Just Between Friends co-founder.

McNan knows how quickly money flies with a young child.

"I couldn't even hardly afford diapers, or formula, or even clothes, unless I was to come to something like this," said Kari McNan.

The Just Between Friends event in February broke records for sellers and buyers. 1,400 consignors are taking part this time, a 20% increase.

"I think to a lot of families it means they can do for their families what they want to do, but otherwise wouldn't be able to do," said Kimberly Cacciola, consignor.

There are plenty of toys and games, but the clothes are the hot items.

"It adds up a lot, so it's good to be able to come here and get a good deal," said Nikki Ward, a mother.

The Just Between Friends event will last through Saturday, August 29. They'll be open from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. every day at Expo Square.
