Bartlesville Man Jailed After Assaulting His Wife With Truck And Gun

BARTLESVILLE, OK -- A woman and two children are lucky to be alive after a domestic violence rampage.  Bartlesville Police say a man wearing a Kevlar helmet and vest rammed his truck into his wife's home and then pulled out a gun.  Even veteran police officers are surprised by the case.  They tell The News On 6 it is a miracle no one was killed. 

Bartlesville Police say just after five Sunday morning, Marty Owens intentionally rammed his truck into his wife's home on Northwest Cummings Street.

"It was amazing, we just don't have this everyday," said Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland.

The truck went through the living room, ending up in the kitchen.  Police say Owens then pointed a rifle at his wife, Alissa, and pulled the trigger.

"It did click, but it did not fire.  We later recovered that and recovered a round out of it that had an indentation on the primer.  It's like one in a million that it did not go off," said Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland.

Investigators say Owens was choking his wife when a man who was staying with friends across the street stepped in.

"He got a hold of the man, put a chokehold on him, was able to pull him off the lady and yelled for her to run, which she did," said Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland.

The Good Samaritan held Owens until officers arrived.  Another neighbor got two young girls out of the house.

Investigators feel certain Owens was intent on killing his wife.

"The subject was wearing a military Kevlar helmet and a load bearing vest that the military wears," said Bartlesville Police Officer Randy Tayrien.  "No matter what it took.  Yes sir."

Officers say it's amazing no one was injured or killed by the gunfire or the truck ramming into the home.  The outcome may have been very different if the Good Samaritan hadn't helped.

"I think we would have had a homicide," said Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland.

Marty Owens is being held on $500,000 bond.  He faces several charges including assault and battery with intent to kill.
