Friday Was A Furlough Day For Most City Of Tulsa Employees

Posted: Updated:

TULSA, OK -- A number of city of Tulsa employees are getting an extended Labor Day weekend, but it is not by their choice.

Friday was the second of eight furlough days for employees.  The closed signs were up at most city offices.

The furloughs are part of the city's effort to save millions of dollars in the budget.

On Monday, September 7, residential refuse collection will not occur.

City of Tulsa customers whose trash is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays may leave twice the normal allowable amount at the curb for pickup on their next service day, which will be Thursday, September 10. Customers whose trash is picked up once a week are not affected, because Monday is not a usual service day. Curbside recycling customers, however, will receive service on Monday, Sept. 7.

The City of Tulsa green waste site, 10401 East 56th Street North, will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. It will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with normal hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The green waste site is open daily, including weekends, except for designated City holidays.

The City of Tulsa Animal Welfare Shelter, 3031 North Erie Avenue, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7. The shelter's usual schedule is Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.

Both City golf courses - Mohawk and Page Belcher, as well as the Tulsa Zoo, will be open Monday, Sept. 7. Gilcrease Museum will be closed on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Tulsa Parks recreation centers will be closed through Monday, Sept. 7.
