Oklahomans Remember The Fallen And Heroes From 9/11

UNDATED -- America vowed never to forget and Claremore students upheld that promise on Friday.  The Navy Junior ROTC held a ceremony remembering the victims of the 9/11 terrorists attacks.   

Students gathered outside the school to honor the fallen and celebrate the heroes who rose from the rubble.

A woman also talked with students about her experiences at the Pentagon in the aftermath of the attacks.  Plus, several cadets shared their memories from that day eight years ago and what 9/11 means to them.

"We were hurt and we cried, but now we have a scar, a scar that will remind us of everything we stand for, everything we love, but the most important thing it helps us remember is that freedom isn't free," said Claremore JROTC Cadet Matthew Naegle.

That's why Cadet Naegle says it's also important to remember all the soldiers who've died protecting that freedom.

Meanwhile in Bixby, people gathered at Washington Irving Park to remember.  They had a prayer service and read the speeches given by President Bush and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani after the attacks.

A steel beam from one of the towers is on permanent display in Bixby.
