OKLAHOMA CITY -- Former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating has been named to a Pentagon advisory committee focused on potential nuclear and biochemical attacks and related domestic emergencies.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates named Keating to the panel this week.

Chaired by retired Navy Adm. Steve Abbot, the congressionally mandated panel is charged with assessing Pentagon capabilities to support civil authorities during a domestic attack.

Keating was the governor of Oklahoma in April 1995 when a truck bomb destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, including 19 children.

Since completing his second term as governor in 2003, he has served as president and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers, a Washington, D.C.-based trade association.
