DUNCAN, Oklahoma - Duncan city leaders are considering banning cell phone use while driving in the southern Oklahoma town.
The City Council met at 5:15 p.m. to consider the ban that would make it illegal to text or talk on a cell phone while driving. The council decided to delay voting on the issue to allow for more time for public input. If the measure was passed, Duncan would be the first city in Oklahoma to enact a ban.
City Manager Clyde Shaw said the council began considering the measure as the dangers of cell phone use while driving became more well known.
State legislators considered a bill enacting a similar ban, but the bill was never heard on the House floor.
In July, NEWS 9's "Driving While Intexticated" series highlighted the dangers posed while text messaging and driving.
