Tulsa Police Receive Crime Stoppers Tips In Deadly Shooting

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Police have received numerous tips in relation to the murder of a Memorial High School freshman, but have still made no arrests in Friday's gang-related shooting.

The shooting happened in the area of 33rd and North Lansing at about 4:45 p.m. Friday.

Sgt. Mike Huff of the Tulsa Police Department said they had more than a dozen tips to Crime Stoppers Monday morning alone.

Richard McDaniel has lived in the neighborhood of 33rd and North Lansing for 25 years.

"It's a good neighborhood, very good," said Richard McDaniel.

He says it has been usually calm, until a drive-by shooting shattered the silence Friday afternoon. Jacob Barnes, 16, was walking home from the school bus stop with his sister.

"It appears this young man was intentionally targeted," said Sgt. Mike Huff, Tulsa Police Department.

Tulsa Police say they believe there is a gang element involved.

"We do feel that some of the suspect names that have been provided are definite gang members and we're just working around the clock just trying to get to the bottom of it," said Sgt. Huff.

Police are searching for the suspects. Witnesses saw a gold colored SUV, possibly a Chevy suburban or Tahoe, with chrome rims. They say the vehicle pulled up to Barnes and after a brief conversation, someone inside opened fire. Barnes was shot in the head, neck and back. He later died of his wounds.

"It's obvious that there are many people that know about this and we feel that we are going to get to the bottom of it," said Sgt. Huff.

Something Richard McDaniel hopes will happen soon.

"I was terrifically surprised. I see kids coming home all the time from school. I just couldn't imagine what had happened," said Richard McDaniel.
