BARTLESVILLE, OK -- A 17-year-old boy in Bartlesville was shot and killed Thursday evening in what police say was an accident.

The victim, Tyler Teague, was a junior at Bartlesville High School and a member of the baseball team.

Police say they got a 911 call at 6:44 p.m. Thursday about a shooting in the 6200 block of South East Sawgrass. Upon arrival, Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland say officers found Tyler Teague dead on the floor of the garage in the home.

A friend of Tyler's told police they were looking at a shotguns they used for hunting when one of the guns fell and discharged.  Another boy was in the garage and two adults were in the home at the time of the shooting.  No one else was hurt.

"We don't even think there was horseplay," said Holland. "These boys were looking at some guns used in bird hunting.  One fell over and was unknown to them had a live round in the gun.  When they grabbed it to keep it from falling over, it went off."

Bartlesville Public Schools sent extra counselors to the high school to be available for  students Friday. A homecoming assembly at the school was canceled, but other school activities for Friday night were to continue.

Tyler Teague's funeral will be Monday, October 12, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bartlesville.
