TULSA, OK -- Families are invited to experience "World War II: A Day of Living History" Saturday, October 24 at the Helmerich Library, 5131 E. 91 st St.

"The ability to hear World War II history from a first-person perspective is growing quieter as each day passes," said John Fancher, spokesperson for Tulsa City County Library.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can do just that. Throughout the day, WW II veteran guest speakers will share their firsthand stories of experiences overseas.

Families can also explore the life of a World War II soldier as re-enactors of the 45th Infantry Division and associated units share the story of fighting for survival and forming lifelong friendships.  See original military equipment, uniforms, period personal effects, vehicles and other memorabilia from the home front.

A photo display from the Beryl Ford Collection/Rotary Club of Tulsa will feature local sites from the era.  One particular image from 1945 features a local softball team, "T-Town Wolfess," standing by the A-26 bomber which they won the right to name by selling the most war bonds.

"This is our third time to present our living history program at Helmerich Library," said Kevin O'Keefe, re-enactor with the 45 th Infantry Division G Company.  "It is refreshing to see two and three generations of families visit the event and remember the sacrifices that were made for our freedom.  Many times it is the perfect opportunity for children to learn how their families sacrificed and contributed to our country's freedom."
