TULSA, OK -- Tulsa firefighters at Ladder Company No. 24, 3500 N. Peoria Avenue, were surprised by a loud boom while they were upstairs eating lunch Wednesday shortly after noon.

"It shook the whole station," said Driver Doug Mills of the Tulsa Fire Department. "We thought maybe there was an explosion or something."

Instead, the men on shift learned that a pickup had crashed into the station, breaking glass in one of the truck bay doors. They were again surprised when the driver of the pickup backed up and drove away.

"We saw him backing up and got the tag number," Mills said.

Firefighters called in the Tulsa Police Department, and while officers were at the station the pickup drove back by the station. Officers were able to stop the motorist. Gary Wilson Burks was cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

"It was completely unexpected," Mills said of the day's events.

No one was injured in the incident.
