COWETA, Oklahoma -- This high school football season has been a tough one for the Coweta Tigers community. On the field, Bubba Burcham's team has struggled to a 1-7 record, including a 1-4 district mark.
Off the field, Coweta lost a former player and friend when Rick Bryan died just days before the season opener.
Bryan, a former Tiger, Oklahoma Sooner and Atlanta Falcon, died of congestive heart failure at the age of 47.
Friday night, Coweta honored Bryan by retiring his jersey at a halftime ceremony during the Tigers' 17-14 loss to Stilwell.
"It's about the best honor you can get," said Bryan's son, Mike. "Everywhere he went he flourished. He was a great player, a great friend, a great citizen of Coweta and a great dad."
