OWASSO, OK -- The City of Owasso held its annual Veterans Recognition Ceremony on Sunday.

The event, held to remember, reflect, and honor the sacrifice and service from Veterans and their families, was held at the Veterans Memorial located at 10320 East 116th Street North.

The keynote speaker was Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation and Patriot Golf Day.

"It happened in the great sacrifices we made in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, that have paved the way for the freedoms we all enjoy here today. And I will tell you, that hopefully on my watch, we're not going to relinquish any of those freedoms," said Major Dan Rooney, Air National Guard.

A Major in the Air National Guard and a decorated military aviator, Rooney has served three combat tours in Iraq. He is a two-time recipient of the coveted “Top Gun” award and was honored with the “Spirit of Attack” award as a top graduate of F-16 training.

Veterans Day is Wednesday.
